The roots of our society – The temple that
imparts education

The roots of our society – The temple that
imparts education

Food is the sole requirement for a person to thrive, along with air and water. But that particular survival is something that is defined by Biology. It keeps the soul and the body together. We respire, all the organs of the body function and co-ordinate to carry out the most technical and sophisticated function. Food is a physical supplement which nourishes the body and imparts energy. Water adds on to the nutrients while air or oxygen simply contributes to the release of energy or to be more technical – ‘Cellular Respiration’. When an organism carries out all of these fundamental functions plus reproduction and response to the stimuli, it is classified as a ‘living organism’ by science. But when talking from the point of view of a ‘stupid common man’ can be this be called life? Nope, absolutely no! Science and practical life are totally different, though they may seem seamlessly connected!

Life is not just surviving through the vivid conditions that one may face. Life is about dealing with feelings, doing the appropriate and just things! It is about being truthful, just, brave, fearless and the most important of all to “FLOW AWAY WITH THE FLOW, BUT YET NOT!” The last line has to be emphasized. It is very important to go with flow and adjust to the situations around us, but at the same time we must also say that we should adjust only and only after giving it a thought!  We should not adjust to each and every thing, as we come across many wrong and bad things! We must first think rationally, examining and scrutinizing all of its angles and then think of the action to be taken.

At the end of day, after a hectic schedule when we lie down on our beds with our eyes tightly shut, a burst of scenes, memories and thoughts splash upon that ‘inward eye’! We come across a lot of things which make us proud of our country and make us feel complacent, but at the same time we also experience that there are actually a lot more hindrances that stop us from exploring our full potential! It seems to me that we ignore those things and simply move on to continue and win the ‘race of life’! We do not have the time to think over such issues, or simply we are just moving away from facing ‘em!

The times demands ‘reflection’ form us! We often say that the ministers are corrupt and the ministry is a flop show! I’ve often come to across people who hate politics like anything and it has become a craze of the 21st century people to insult it! But the fact is that that out of a hundred people only 8-10 people might be actually into it and may be giving the right opinion, others are just the blind followers! The herds of sheep! What I believe is that these ministers have not come from the sky that we are to blame them; they are simply the people amongst us! Indeed they are the people whom we chosen to lead the country! We don’t even have faith in our own choice and our minds are so veering that we do not think the same after an hour! I many a times think that the problem is at root level. The scam, corruption or any other social evil is just the extensions of the unmonitored root level problems! So it is upon us to correct the things from the bottom!

The root level is nothing but the schools and the parental care! These are the things that shape the minds of any individual and which gradually affects their overall life. This stage in the life of any child is the most crucial stage. Even if there is a slightest of deviation, it leads to complete reversal and disaster! According to the sex ratios, there are 914 girls for every 1000 boys in India. That means there are only 86 girls less for every 1000 boys, which is merely unobtrusive difference when we are talking about thousands! But just look at it from a wider angle, the population of India is 1,210,193,422! Now let’s just re-look at the difference when we talk about the over-all population. There are 54,376,506 less females in comparison to males! Isn’t this is difference so huge! Now it also means that there would be at least 5.5 crore men (around 50 million men!) who would find it difficult to find their life partners! So from the above example it is evident that even a slight deviation can become disastrous when we talk about the whole of the society!

Schools were considered to be temples where ‘EDUCATION’ was imparted and the teachers were considered to be one step higher than our 33 crore (According to the general word, there are 330 million gods and goddesses in India!) immortal GODs! ‘Education is the chief defense of a nation’! But as a matter of fact the root called Education and Schools have started to decay! If the root of the tree is not strong enough than sooner or later the tree topples off! The issue starts off at both the ends, namely the Schools and the students.

Most of the students in the schools do not come to study, they simply come to do ‘Time Pass’ as they put in which is surely the indication of improper nourishment given by the elderly class to which the children meet. Whenever we face a problem, it can never be one-sided! There is always a bit of problem caused by both the parties! The students on the other hand are no less! They are sometimes so violent and destructive that we cannot even imagine! The students harm the school’s properties, violate its norms and behave like uncivilized creatures! Abusing teachers, parents and friends has become a trend of the new generation! Talking in an obscene way is also a great concern! Today in the 21st century, in the world of ‘The Survival of the Fittest’ just to survive, we all run like mad people without thinking and realizing the true aim of life! The tuff competition and the external world have left us completely lost and deviated though we feel are on the ‘right track’! The parents, as they put in, ‘follow their duty’ and have stuck in the intricate sphere of life! They work day and night to earn a few bucks and lead a prosperous family! No doubt it is really remarkable to do all such work! The fact is that, that in the process of living a leisurely life, the parents many a times fail to give proper attention to their children! Giving proper attention and nourishment is the greatest of the achievements of the parents, as they will be the future citizens of the nation and they will become the Parents! We have a saying in Gujarati, ‘Kuvama Hoy to Haveda ma Ave ne’. It means that if the children aren’t nourished properly than they wouldn’t be able to give proper nourishment to their children and the cycle would continue endlessely! Ultimately we would stop with nothing! It is the responsibility of the parents to understand their children and guide them as necessary. It includes dealing with love and correcting every mistake! No doubt the teachers have a vital role to play, but looking at the situation today, it is moreover the parents who need to look into this matter!

Students often come down to damaging and sometimes in severe cases stealing the school properties! Making mirth and mischief during an ongoing class is something very common, or simply imperceptible under large headings! Using abusive language and gestures is again widespread! It is not limited to the students but is readily extended to teachers and parents. Many people tend to call each other by spoiling their father’s name! They come to school for ‘all other purposes except for studying’! Copying during all sorts of tests and exams is prominent! As mentioned above, sometimes girls are also dis-respected! They take pride in performing all such ‘arts’! Our school is still very supportive and extends full support to us for doing all the remedial actions, which we want to perform, but still we don’t have enough students to make the school a better place to study! (I study in S.N.K) Many other schools do not even extend support to the sincere students! Many schools just run on the basis of a ‘Profit and loss statement’ where they work for money and not for the betterment of the society! Most of the state board schools are such! One of the main reasons behind them is that either they are not having enough money, or they are greedy, or the staff is not willing! And of course the students are like devils! Some sort of enforcement and awareness must be brought in!!!

As a matter of fact there are many schools across our country, which do not fulfill their purpose. For example the Modi school (in Rajkot), has an annual fee of Rs. 40,000 while the receipt you get is just of Rs. 4000! It is a plain cheating! Another school situated at Jamnagar, the ‘Shri Satya Sai High School’ has a similar tale! Most of the students studying here take admissions in the schools just because they want to appear for the Board’s examination! They do not study there; the whole of the course is covered in the tuitions! The reasons may be inadequate resources or simply the malfunctioning of the school! Isn’t all these situations alarming??? When such rubbish is done on the name of education we cannot feel, but pity! We have to collectively take some steps on such issues! Things must not go like the way they are going right now!!!

Recently when the results of the 12th standard were declared, many students failed in ‘Computers’ just because there was a fatal error in the Question Paper and the OMR sheet! The question paper and the OMR sheet did not match! All the diligent stars of Surat got depressed after seeing such results! When the parents and the students went to the higher authorities, they said that they were helpless! Indeed if the higher authorities do not do anything, than who is to be caught responsible?  After all it is the future of those students with whom these people are meddling! When it is known to the people that it is fault of the board, why isn’t anything done? Many things like this happen day after day and we do nothing!!! We must all raise our voice against such issues!

All in all to conclude, I have no option, but be silent! Silence has the invincible power to win people! I would just like to say that it is we the people who have the ultimate power to change. It is upon us to decide whether we wanna change or not! And if each one us vows today to change himself and change whatever he can than the change will not be unseen in short periods of time! Our mind is a remarkable machine that never stops throughout the life. So today, let’s use it for some good cause! It must not surprise us that it is we the students who can bring about 90% of the change ! Parents, teachers and other elders are simply to guide us but it is we who can bring all the change, even though it may not be directly related to us!  Let’s all join our hands, rise up and be the change makers! We can do it!
